Shifting to Servant Leadership

Away from traditional leadership and toward servant leadership, workplaces all over the world have developed a strong environment of improved organisational involvement. Through power and empowerment, this revolution came about as a result of organizations competing to retain committed employees.

Breakthrough Leadership Management Consultancy Inc. continues toward this journey of promoting servant leadership in the Philippines through partnering with organizations like Investors in People (Inspiring Partners) and Lead Like Jesus to further develop the concept through effective leadership and supervision.

“This year, we started introducing an eye-opening management program that redefines leadership to the standard that many servant leaders has established in the past,” said Boris Joaquin, President and CEO of Breakthrough Leadership.

Servant leadership can be achieved through techniques such as visioning, engagement, relationship building, and stressing the importance of values.

And accredited facilitator of Lead Like Jesus at the Center of Faithwalk Leadership, Joaquin added, “The more I read (the Bible), the more I realized that Jesus is the greatest servant leadership role model of all time.”

Servant leadership is a cure for ineffectiveness. Focusing on significance – generosity, service and loving relationships – success and results will follow as their emphasis is on their people.

Formed by Robert Greenleaf in 1970, servant leadership training is being adapted into business school curriculum to equip the leaders of today with the necessary skills to lead.

“Servant leadership encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and the ethical use of power and empowerment,” said Greenleaf.

Greenleaf identified listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, stewardship and building community as important traits servant leaders should have.

Breakthrough Leadership will offer seminar-workshops to corporate entities, government and non-profit agencies, as well as to the general public, with programs such as Leading without the Title, Managing Your Boss, Art of Influence, and Moving Into Management throughout the year.

Companies like Starbucks, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, TD Industries, The Men’s Warehouse, Southwest Airlines, Service Master, and the Toro Company attribute their success, in large part, to the practice of servant leadership – embracing a humble sincerity that brings out the best in leaders and those they serve. Locally, our roster of clients include Toshiba, Petron, Unilab, San Miguel Foods, St. Luke’s, TESDA, Asian Hospital, Cebuanna Lhuillier and Airspeed among others.
