Life’s Billboard: Prepares the Way!
I consider my career in speaking/ training as a calling to “prepare the way” to Christ’s love, grace and hope.
Blessed to have people donate billboards to promote our programs. These huge display are really effectively in building awareness and getting inquiries.
You probably heard of the story of Mr. Bertram Lim, owner of the pioneer and biggest outdoor advertising company in the country. But for those of you who haven’t, here’s the feature in GMA News TV http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/video/166882/stateofthenation/lalaking-nasa-likod-ng-god-speaks-billboard-ikinuwento-ang-inspirasyon-sa-kanyang-panata
Driving from Commonwealth to Makati almost everyday really makes me feel that my world is like a vast wilderness (especially with bumper to bumper traffic). And I’ve always felt that these billboards is like a voice calling on to its journeyers (In advertising, we have term called “share-of-voice”) preparing ears, minds and hearts to the message of the LORD; preparing a straight way in the desert, a highway for our God.
My work and the testimony of Mr. Lim reminds me of Isaiah 40:3 “The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
Likewise, our faith and its claims are like advertisements. It prepares the way for the Lord’s message of love, grace and salvation. But our “billboards” must be absolutely backed up by the way we live our lives at work and everywhere else we go. Otherwise our faith has no attraction to associates and co-workers and serves only to make us look less than genuine to them.
James said, “…from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers, these ought not to be this way” (3:10). In other words, do not be inconsistent in your speech. Furthermore, we can also say that there cannot be any inconsistencies between what we say and what we actually do on our jobs daily.
But how many actually ‘prepares a way’ for the Lord? The Hebrew word for way is ‘derech’. Derech means a path, or a way of life.
If we want to be blessing and be blessed, we need to prepare a derech in our lives. We need to develop Godly ways, Godly habits, Godly consistency and practices. We need to turn all our holy places into holy ways that carry on throughout our daily lives.
The blessings of God need to flow through us to others around us– let’s give Him a derech through which to do so.
What is your Life’s Billboard saying? Does it prepare the way?
